In a move that would make the Dewey Decimal System proud, Google has digitized 1.5 million public domain titles in a small screen format. If you’re in the mood to do some reading, just point Opera Mobile 9.5 or Skyfire to http://books.google.com/m and you’ll have access to titles such as “Treasure Island,” “At the Back of the North Wind,” and “My Life at Work.” Pocket IE warns that “Some content cannot be displayed due to Pocket PC security settings” then returns a blank page.  Just what security setting needs changing in order to make it work are, sadly, still a mystery to us.

Admittedly, it may not be the most stunning literary lineup but with 1.5 million titles to choose from, everyone should find something of interest. In trying Google Books I learned that I had to increase my browser’s cache to download the books and you can’t read the books without a connection. Loose the data connection and you loose the book. If you’ve been curious about eBooks or just have some time to kill and you’re tired of playing Bejeweled, Google Books is worth a look.

Solo son rumores, pero vuelven a circular en tromba por todo Internet.  En Google ni confirman ni desmienten, pero la cantidad y calidad de la rumorología a lo largo de esta semana, parece indicar movimientos reales.

Salvo sorpresas de última hora, parece que HTC será la marca elegida para fabricar varios modelos, todos ellos con teclado QWERTY integrado. En España se ha hablado de la posibilidad de comercializarlo con Orange y que HTC sea efectivamente quien fabrique el terminal, aunque no hay nada oficial.

Según CrunchGear, Google “afina ya el diseño de una veintena de modelos con el fabricante taiwanés HTC” para lanzar un teléfono el primer trimestre de 2008. ¿Cuando podremos tocarlo?

Aunque la versión de Firefox Mobile, nombre en código Fennec, para Symbian parece que no llega, la versión en desarrollo para Windows Mobile llegará la primera semana de febrero. El equipo de desarrolladores de Mozilla encargados de la versión móvil de Firefox dice que la primera alpha de Firefox Mobile para Windows Mobile está lista.

La pega es que esta primera alpha de Firefox Mobile para Windows Mobile únicamente se encontrará disponible para el HTC Touch Pro, aunque es bien posible que desarrolladores externos consigan portar tal versión a otros terminales HTC con WinMo.

Si mantienen las características de versiones anteriores, Firefox Mobile vendrá con navegación por pestañas, bloqueo de ventanas emergentes, buscador integrado en la barra de direcciones (al estilo AwesomeBar), zoom de la página, gestor de contraseñas y gestor de descargas, algo que ya podemos encontrar en Opera Mobile.

He aquí la pregunta que me hago, ¿qué me aporta Firefox Mobile con respecto al navegador de Opera? Por lo que aparenta, a priori, poca cosa.

Chatter over Windows Mobile 6.5 has grown into a deafening din the past few weeks, strongly suggesting we’ll all be treated to the next WinMo release at MWC in a couple weeks — but how does that translate a device that we can hold in our own two hands, exactly? We’d previously heard Microsoft was targeting the third quarter of 2009, and “sources” of ZDNet’s Mary-Jo Foley are right in line. In a nutshell, she’s saying manufacturers will have access to the gold code in April and the first 6.5 devices will hit the market in September (okay, tail end of the third quarter, but that’s how the cookie crumbles), but she doesn’t stop there — she goes on to say that beta Windows Mobile 7 code will be in the wild in November of this year, with the first handsets following on in April of 2010. That’s a long-ass time from now, yes — but on the flipside, that’s a record for releasing two major WinMo versions in rapid succession. Can’t blame us for trying to find the silver lining.

Latitude is a new feature of Google Maps for mobile, as well as an iGoogle gadget, that allows you to share your location with your friends and to see their approximate locations, if they choose to share them with you. You can use your Google account to sign in and easily invite friends to Latitude from your existing list of contacts or by entering their email addresses. Google Talk is integrated with Latitude, so you and your friends can update your status messages and profile photos on the go and see what everyone is up to.
